Healthy Tip

I'm really intrigued by this lovely seed, and wanted to pass on some info I've found. So, without further ado, here's everything you wanted to know about FLAXSEED!
  • It's the most highly concentrated plant souce of omega-3 fatty acids (aka: GOOD for you fats)
  • Flaxseed is either golden or chocolate brown in color, and is, thankfully, mild in taste! (It's easier to sneak in foods that way!)
  • In order for your body to absorb the nutrients it needs from it, the flaxseed needs to be ground up. This means if your breads and crackers have whole flaxseed, say sianara amigo and trade it in for a different brand.
  • Just one tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 2g of fiber, 1g protein and 2g omega-3's (the recommended daily adequate amount for women is 1.1g and men is 1.6g) Wowee!
  • A few studies have been done that suggest that this beauty lowers heart disease, not to mention reducing your risk for breast, prostate and colon cancers, arthritis, lupus, and stabilizing blood sugars.

Some awesome ways to get flaxseed in:

  • Mix it into a smoothie. Honestly, you can't taste it, and it's not even gritty. Promise.
  • Add a teaspoon to your mayo or mustard as you spread it onto your sandwhich.
  • Bake it into your breads, cookies, muffins and such.

And for all of you familiar with WINCO, they sell it in bulk for cccchhhheeeeaaaaapppp!
So go buy some!

I use ground flax seed every day too! I just sprinkle it on my cereal or in my oatmeal in the mornings. I can't notice it love that I start my day out doing something good for myself!

I've used flaxseed to bake in my breads and oatmeal before. It's awesome. Smoothies, though, that's good! And I am definitely checking that out a Winco. (I went there for the first time recently, and I am AMAZED and L-O-V-E the bulk section!!)
