This past weekend it seemed all our plans were falling through-camping, chocolate festival, pool party- and we were pretty dismayed. We are a definite "go and do" family but were running out of options. Semi last minute we thought we'd go for a "quick" hike that Cory had heard of just a little ways from our house.
Well that quick little hike ended up being 3 hours long, and the drive there and back added two extra hours. But it was so fun to be able to pack up and head to the mountains with our kiddos and chocolate in tow. It was gorgeous and the kids did well, all things considered. We did let them stay up until 10:30 the night before, so a little whining was to be expected :)

{Want a sure fire way to get your whiney kid to move it up the mountain? Bring a squirt bottle and soak 'em so they run! Best idea I've ever had!}
Once we got up the path, there were 143 STEEP stairs to climb to the fire lookout. I tell you what, my legs were burnin' on the way home!

We did it!
Another motivator is candy, specifically M&M's. Had to refuel!

Since we thought this was just going to be a quick thing, we left our lunch in the car, which meant we were all starving and tired on the way down. It was 2:00 (oops!) and hot, kids were tired and of course famished. I'm pleased to say, however, that Isaac walked about 3/4 of the 3 mile hike! Way to go buddy!

Thanks for bringing back memories! We hiked that trail last Memorial Day and loved the view. I'm glad to know y'all were able to get out and do something so fun!
I love the one of them between the tree trunk:)
That is a memorial day tradition for my family and it is one tough "short" hike! How fun.
What great pictures! I love Audrey with the giant water bottle!
